This iconic design is extremely easy to wear, works as well on a bar stool as on a bicycle and is available in tweed or heavy duty 14 oz denim. A knee-length wrap skirt, our take on a traditional scottish kilt, it is designed to sit just above the hip bones and is fully lined in Dutch wax batik and bias trim. Press studs along the waistband allow for subtle variation in fit. Hand-finished with blanket stitch in contrasting or tonal thread.

This wrap skirt is named after Annie “Londonderry” Cohen Kopchovsky (1870–1947), the first woman to bicycle around the world for a wager in 1894. She was a free-thinking young woman, a Jewish mother of three who reinvented herself as an entrepreneur, athlete, and globetrotter who paid her way around the world wearing advertising hoardings and taking part in local cycling competitions. Annie’s chutzpah and bravado also made her an international symbol of the “New Woman” – a term popularized by the American author Henry James in the late nineteenth century and adopted in the early stages of the modern feminist movement.
